Our philosophy on Martial Arts training can be summed up very simply; "everyone has the right and the ability to defend themselves."
We train in an open, friendly atmosphere of learning and experimentation where we discover what works for us as individuals. While the frame work of Techniques that make up Hoshin Jutsu are defined and stable, the way in which each person is able to apply those techniques is as unique as the people performing them. As a "technique and skill based" self defense style, Hoshin Jutsu is designed to allow it's practitioners to defuse the opponents advantage and equalize in any situation. The skills learned in Hoshin are not based upon size, strength or speed but on knowledge of body mechanics, balance, redirecting of the attackers strength, and most of all, using intelligence to deal with any senario. This makes Hoshin suitable for anyone whether they are: young or old; big or small; tall or short; female or male; Unfit or super fit; able or disabled; health or unhealthy or any combination of the above.
We train to face a wide variety of realistic situations including multiple attackers, attacks with weapons and against people trying to strike or grab us. We also learn to use a variety weapons, some common in our daily lives and some of a more traditional nature. Weapons' training helps the person to deal with weapon attacks better and allows the person to gain a more in-depth knowledge of the techniques even when unarmed.
Practitioners of Hoshin have reported increased confidence in the knowledge that they can cope with any situation. This often spills over into other aspects of life, leading to an overall improvement of life. While the application of the techniques themselves is not dependant upon fitness, we do have a 20-30 minute cardio period in each class to improve fitness and overall health. Hoshin Jutsu is more than just a way to kick butt, it is a life-style choice. It is something you do for yourself that has rewards far beyond measure.
